I was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa and studied Art and Design. I am inspired by nature, the journey of the soul and the contrasting blend of mixed media compositions. This brought me to develop an enduring and distinct body of work.
Inspired by formalist muted colours in an uneven, although defined balance, my work conveys emotions, expresses identity, and captures light.
I create a soulful expression of creativity, rarely captured in contemporary works of art. A meticulous blend of contrasts, classic and contemporary media are chosen to convey a wide range of feelings. From foreboding and despair to hope and rapture.
I have been highly influenced by “formalist” and naive tendencies in art, whilst developing my unique blend of texture from concrete and mixed media. My style has been about introducing natural pigments, acrylic and engraving to capture a three-dimensional effect.
As an accomplished international artist, I spent a large portion of my career residing in the United Arab Emirates. I continue to exhibit in Dubai, have established a visible local presence in Cape Town galleries and commissioned projects abroad. I am currently working and residing in the United Kingdom.
In 2006, I won the prestigious “Sheikha Manal’s Young Artist Award: New Signatures”. The prize-winning artwork was exhibited by Christie’s at the opening of their first Middle-Eastern auction.
